Call for entries: Research papers on traditional musical instruments

The #HeritageAlive online journal for NGOs within the area of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) is accepting research papers on traditional musical instruments.

All papers should be sent to #HeritageAlive editor-in-chief Eivind Falk.


#HeritageAlive was launched in 2012 by the ICH NGO Forum to provide UNESCO-accredited NGOs and experts with a platform to share knowledge from fieldwork in communities with practitioners and to learn from each other. So far, the journal has published articles on a variety of subjects such as traditional crafts, festivals and naming practices.

The selected articles will be compiled into a book on traditional musical instruments that will be published by the end of 2021. 

The articles to be submitted should:

  • Reflect the NGOs' and experts' experiences from the field when working with projects related to musical instruments, making or performing.
  • Reflect the challenges, methodology and experiences in safeguarding and transmitting elements in the spirit of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
  • Highlight experiences from the field.
  • Be written by, or in cooperation with the NGOs and the practitioners concerned.

Editorial requirements

The articles to be submitted must:

  • Be between 1 500 and 2 000 words, in English or French.
  • Contain a summary of around 400 words for translation into French or English.
  • Be submitted as text only, without images. 

Note:

  • Pictures and musical recordings associated with the publication will be submitted later.
  • Authors are responsible for proofreading the text for misspellings before passing it to the board. 
  • Documents with excessive misspellings and grammatical issues will be returned to the author. 

References/bibliography must be in the Harvard style:

  • In-text: (Shriver and Atkins, 1999, p.12).
  • In the bibliography: Shriver, D.F. and Atkins, P.W. (1999). Inorganic Chemistry 3rd ed. Oxford: Oxford University Press.

Interested individuals should send their articles to the editor-in-chief of the publication, Eivind Falk, at eivind.falk@handverksinstituttet.no(link sends e-mail).

The application deadline is 15 October. 

If there is still room for more articles after October, a second call will be announced.

Radio Pundit/Musician, Dada Hafco says “Teephlow is a big problem in the industry. I am just happy for him.
